CHRISTUS Good Shepherd Preceptor and Clinical Rotation Request

At CHRISTUS Good Shepherd, we are committed to supporting students in their educational journey by offering preceptorship and clinical rotation opportunities. These experiences provide hands-on learning under the mentorship of experienced healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses.

Our Education Department facilitates student placements at CHRISTUS Good Shepherd hospitals and clinics, ensuring a structured and enriching clinical experience. Below, you’ll find important information to guide you through the process.

Application Process

Step 1: Verify School Affiliation

Before applying, it is your responsibility to confirm with your school that an active Affiliation Agreement exists with CHRISTUS Health.

Step 2: Submit Your Application

Clinical Preceptor applications are due 60 days prior to the requested rotation to allow sufficient time for review and approval.

A new application must be submitted for each semester rotation (i.e. spring, summer, fall).

For CHRISTUS Associates ONLY

Step 3: Application Review & Approval

The Education Department will review applications and notify students via email within four weeks after the application deadline. You cannot begin your rotation until you receive official confirmation from CHRISTUS Good Shepherd.


Student Expectations & Guidelines

Identification and Dress Code

  • All students must wear their school-issued ID badge at all times.
  • Students should wear their assigned school uniform unless directed otherwise for specialty care areas.
  • Artificial fingernails, shellac, and dip powder nails are not permitted in patient care areas.

Professional Conduct

  • Cell Phone Usage: Use of personal cell phones is prohibited during clinical hours. Calls should be made only during designated break times in designated break areas.

  • Patient Identification: Always verify patient identity by asking for their name and date of birth before initiating care, and cross-check against orders every time, regardless of how many times you've been in the room.
