Meet John Evans, MD
Dr. Evans was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, at Schumpert Hospital – the same place where he works today.
He initially planned on being a petroleum engineer like his father. However, a high school football injury redirected his life-calling. Instead, Evans became interested in medicine after recovering from an operation to repair his fractured ankle.
He attended college in Baton Rouge and was fortunate enough to be admitted into medical school, where his interests fluctuated between orthopedics, medical oncology and surgery.
Exceptional surgeons mentored him, and his desire to pursue a career in surgery was no longer in doubt. He completed five years of general surgery training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Midway through this training, Dr. Evans fell in love with cardiothoracic surgery. He continued his cardiothoracic training at Vanderbilt before moving back to Shreveport.
